Archive of Biting Beaver
I met Caroline Norma, the author of this article.
I also met her girlfriend (I’ve forgotten her name, even though I asked what her name was twice. Oh dear.) who was lovely, though she was quieter then Caroline or she didn’t know what to say. Caroline and I both talked about blogs, and her girlfriend doesn’t read blogs much. I was thinking I was going to write something bigger about it, and I probably will, but through the livejournal antiporn community I came across something I want to share:
One Angry Girl has been compiling old posts written by Biting Beaver, and has put them onto this blog:
The Archive Of The Biting Beaver
This womans words are so powerful. So very powerful. Argh, the treatment she recieved for speaking out against porn. It’s all so sad.
I’m reading through these eight blog posts of hers, and I wish her archives were still up. She was amazing.
A powerful, powerful voice.
I’ve met Caroline and her partner too. And I can’t quite remember her name either. I know it starts with K. Kelly perhaps?
Thank you, thank you for the link to Biting Beaver’s old posts. I only started really getting into feminist blogging after Biting Beaver had been attacked and had to go away. But I loved her work.
I’m just wondering whether you have any interest in feminist conferences. There is going to be one in Brisbane this year. Which reminds me that I must advertise it on my blog. I’ve only been to two but I’ve really enjoyed them. It is a great way to meet passionate and alive women.

Oooh. Kelly sounds familiar but I’m really not sure. :/
Biting Beavers stuff is amazing I think. She’s the whole reason I identify as a feminist. I read the “rapists checklist” that she wrote, and it resonated so hard with non-feminist me that I had to read more of her stuff, and more of it ’till I evolved and grew.
Yeah - I’m interested in feminist conferences. I’ve never been to one before. There was one in Adelaide I found out about that was all about cyberpunk and cyberfeminists, and I wish I could have been there.
When is the conference in Brisbane going to be held? I’d love more information on it.

I’m a bit confused about the BB archive - is that being published with BB’s permission? I can’t find an About page or similar.

As far as I am aware it is _not_ being published with her permission, but I don’t really know.

Then I hope it will be removed out of respect for BB’s decision.

Definately a fair response.
I read over on Genderberg that One Angry Girl wanted to ask BB’s permission, but since she dropped off the internet she is unable.
As far as I’m aware Biting Beaver took all of her things down out of fear for her own safety, so having it up is worrying in that the people who were trying to get hold of her could well use the information to do that still.
I used to read BB extensively and I also used to be a 4channer (A member of the group that so viciously attacked her.) so it’s a strange conundrum. I know BB used to keep up archives of other womens work and that she thought the words of feminist who no longer blogged were important and she wanted people to read them, and I know that the 4channers keen on attacking her already saved her entire archives for their purposes.
Also I know they’ve got a very short attention span and that the raids on her are no longer active.
If you don’t support the archive out of respect for Bting Beaver I understand that entirely the whole thing is very messy.
I really do appreciate her words being back online though.
Oh. I wish that we could contact her.

Hi again Celly, sorry I took so long to get back to you. I’ve been sick. Here is the link to the Brisbane Feminist Conference. All the information is there. It is actually a really cheap conference. I’ve never been to a conference that was so reasonably priced. Anyway, I hope that you can make it. They are heaps of fun. And it is so nice being amongst other women who think similarly.

I’ve been sick too recently, but I’m getting better. Thanks for providing a link. I took a brief look at it, but I’ll give a more substantial reply about whether I can make it after I look at my university timetabling, and try and figure the budget to save for, and try and find a place to stay.
After I’ve collected that information I’ll probably reply to the post you made on your blog about the conference to tell you whether I’ll be there.
I would definitely like to be there! It does sound really nice.
